I'm building a research lab at UCSD, which will reside in the new Design Lab building, available early 2021! I'm excited to advance the foundamentals of HCI with highly creative and collaborative students. I also have positions for interns, visiting researchers, and post-docs. The lab welcomes diverse technological backgrounds (CogSci, CS, EE, Design, etc.) and broad cultural backgrounds.
The main difference of the PhD program in CogSci is probably the courses that you have to take to meet the program requirements. I encourage you to take a look at this website to learn more about the program.
My position is with both Cognitive Science and Design Lab, and our lab will reside in the new Design and Innovation Building (available early 2021). We will share this exciting new space with other HCI researchers from CS, ECE, Design, Psychology, and others. The Design Lab hosts almost 30 faculties related to HCI, with founders of our field, SIGCHI Lifetime Research Award recipients, renowned psychologists and technology pioneers, as well as many ambitious junior faculties and young students. It's truly exciting place to be.
I intend to build a research lab with highly creative and collaborative individuals of diverse technological and cultural backgrounds. You will spend a long and important period of your life in the lab, and I hope every member of the lab can have the best experience that I fortunately had during my PhD. I expect you to participate in establishing an enjoyable culture that can help everyone succeed.
